SpringWell WS well water filter review: specs, limits and who it's for
Buying through our links can earn us a commission at no cost to you. How that works.
Short answer
The SpringWell WS is a strong fit if your test shows iron up to 7 ppm, hydrogen sulfide up to 8 ppm or manganese up to 1 ppm. It treats all three in one self-cleaning tank, without salt or chemicals, from about $1,600 with a lifetime warranty and a 6-month return window. Skip it if your iron is above 7 ppm, your pH is low, or your only problem is bacteria or hardness.
How this review was made: we haven't installed the WS in our own well. This review compares SpringWell's published specifications and limits against EPA benchmarks and the pretreatment rules of other systems. We'll add owner case studies with before-and-after lab results as we collect them. How we pick.

SpringWell WS Well Water Filter
Air injection oxidation: an air pocket at the top of the tank oxidizes dissolved iron, sulfur and manganese so a greensand bed can trap them. It backwashes itself on a timer, with no chemicals or salt.

What we like
- One tank handles the three most common well complaints.
- No salt, chemicals or cartridges; the media is rated for 10+ years.
- Long return window (6 months) for a big purchase.
Watch-outs
- Needs a drain for nightly backwash and enough pump flow to rinse the bed.
- Above 7 ppm iron or 8 ppm sulfur, it isn't enough on its own.
- Low pH water (under about 6.5) should be neutralized first.
- It doesn't soften water or kill bacteria; add a softener or UV if your test calls for them.
Who should buy something else
| If your well has | Look at instead |
|---|---|
| Iron under 3 ppm, no smell, tight budget | iSpring WGB32BM |
| Only bacteria | A UV system |
| Only hardness | A softener |
Questions well owners ask
Is the SpringWell WS worth it?
If your test shows iron, sulfur or manganese within its limits, it replaces a lot of cartridge changes and stained fixtures with one self-cleaning tank. If your problem is something else, it isn't the right tool.
